GM 2nd Ward Enriching Ideas October 2009

Presidency Message
“Conferences have been part of the Church since the beginning of this dispensation. The first conference was held just two months after the Church was organized. We meet twice a year to be instructed by the General Authorities and general officers of the church…. Every time we are obedient to the words of the prophets and apostles we reap great blessings. We receive more blessings than we can understand at the time, and we continue to receive blessings long after our initial decision to be obedient.” (Paul V. Johnson, “The Blessings of General Conference,” Liahona, Nov 2005, 50–52) Once again we had an opportunity to listen to the words of our Prophet and General Authorities to know of the Lords love and desire for us. One of my favorite scriptures is found in Doctrine and Covenants 1:38, “What I the Lord have spoken, I have spoken, and I excuse not myself; and though the heavens and the earth pass away, my word shall not pass away, but shall all be fulfilled, whether by mine own voice or by the voice of my servants, it is the same.” We pray that you have enjoyed listening to General Conference, that you have learned from our leaders the things our Heavenly Father would have you do and to be able to receive the blessings that come from obeying our church leaders. We pray your testimonies have been strengthened and your spirits renewed.

Food Storage
"We encourage members world-wide to prepare for adversity in life by having a basic supply of food and water and some money in savings. We ask that you be wise as you store food and water and build your savings. Do not go to extremes; it is not prudent, for example, to go into debt to establish your food storage all at once. With careful planning, you can, over time, establish a home storage supply and a financial reserve." —The First Presidency, All Is Safely Gathered In: Family Home Storage, Feb. 2007, 1

Visiting Teaching Message- quote
Sister Julie Beck (General R.S. President) “To nurture means to cultivate, care for, and make grow…Nurturing requires organization, patience, love and work. Helping growth occur through nurturing is truly a powerful and influential role bestowed on women” (“Mothers Who Know,” Liahona and Ensign, Nov. 2007, 76, 77).
