June Newsletter

PRESIDENCY MESSAGE
Dear Sisters, This month we welcome the Young Women who are advancing into Relief Society. This is just one of many changes and transitions happening in their lives. Let us be mindful of them. Let us extend the hand of sisterhood and make a place for them in our hearts. Let us share our love of the Lord and Relief Society with them. Sister Julie B. Beck, Relief Society General President, said, “Through Relief Society, sisters can receive answers to their questions and be blessed by the combined spiritual power of all the sisters. Relief Society validates the true and eternal nature of daughters of God. It is a sacred trust, a guiding light, and a system of watchcare that teaches and inspires women to be strong and immovable.” These things are true! Let us share these truths with our new sisters. The RS Presidency

PURSUIT OF EXCELLENCE

“The Pursuit of Excellence is an achievement challenge designed to help a participant develop a Christlike life of love and service. Accomplishing this objective requires a diligent and serious effort in fundamental aspects of a truly Christian life—spiritual, intellectual, social, physical, and in service and character.”

SISTER SPOTLIGHT

Caylynne Reed was born in Salt Lake City, UT. As a child she moved to CA., CT. and then to ID. where she spent most of her childhood. She then served a mission in Canada, she served the Halifax, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick mission. Caylynne also attended BYU where she obtained a degree in Law. While attending BYU she met her husband Garth. Garth was "crashing" a ward dance and Caylynne was trying to avoid dancing with someone she had no interest in. In her attempt to get away from this gentleman she ran into Garth and asked him to dance. They now have two boys, Jeff who is 20 years old and is currently serving a mission and Stephen 18 who is attending BYU and is hoping to go on his mission starting this summer. Caylynne and Garth will be moving in the next couple of months to Guatamala, they plan on living there for four years.
Those of you who know Caylynne may already know that she is a very relaxed person, she enjoys her morning walks. She also loves all of the sisters in the ward and will miss each and every one of you.

Presidency Message
A friend of Elder Neil L. Andersen lost his young daughter in a tragic accident. The friend felt unbearable sorrow and began to waver in his testimony. As Elder Anderson laid his hands on the friend's head, he felt to tell him that “Faith is not only a feeling; it is a decision.” Elder Andersen said, “As disciples of the Lords Jesus Christ, we have enormous spiritual reservoirs of light and truth available to us . . . In our days of difficulty, we choose the road of faith” (Ensign, Nov. 2008, p. 13). President Monson reminds us, “The future is as bright as your faith” (Ensign, May 2009, p. 92). Sisters, no matter our situations in life, let us choose to press forward in faith.
Love,
The RS Presidency

Sister Spotlight
Bonnie Peterson was born and raised in Bemidji Minnesota. She was the sixth child out of nine children. She has four brothers and four sisters. After High school Bonnie attended Ricks College. Once she finished her two years there she moved to Utah with her eldest sister. Shortly after she moved to Utah she went on her mission, she served the West Virginia Charleston Mission. After her mission she returned to Utah. A few years later she decided to spend a summer in Petersburg AK. She stayed with some friends and worked in their restaurant. Bonnie learned that waitressing was not her forte’. But she did get to Salmon fish, she caught one that summer.
She met her husband Kelly while cheering for the guys basketball team at their singles ward. Kelly took an interest in Bonnie as she cheered on the teams. He knew her roommate and asked her if Bonnie might have an interest in him. The rest is history. They now have three girls Shannon 21, Leah 18 and Katie 15.
One thing you may not know about Bonnie is that she is very competitive, when it comes to sports. Her hobbies are genealogy, gardening and camping. She currently works part time as a media assistant at an elementary school where she gets to spend her days reading to children and teaching them about the library.

Presidency Message
President Robert D. Hales of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles said, "As we live providently and increase our gifts and talents, we become more self-reliant. Self reliance is taking responsibility for our own spiritual and temporal welfare and for those whom Heavenly Father has entrusted to our care. Only when we are self-reliant can we truly emulate the Savior in serving and blessing others. It is important to understand that self-reliance is a means to an end. Our ultimate goal is to become like the Savior, and that goal is enhanced by our unselfish service to others. Our ability to serve is increased or diminished by the level of our self-reliance." We hope and pray that we all can do what we need to to be more self-reliant. That we can strive for that main goal, to become like our Savior. We love you all so much.

Emergency Preparedness
Elder L. Tom Perry of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles taught: “Acquire and store a reserve of food and supplies that will sustain life…As long as I can remember, we have been taught to prepare for the future and to obtain a year’s supply of necessities. I would guess that the years of plenty have almost universally caused us to set aside this counsel. I believe the time to disregard this counsel is over. With events in the world today, it must be considered with all seriousness” (“If Ye Are Prepared Ye Shall Not Fear,” Ensign, Nov. 1995, 36).
